Hey there, beauty babes! Summer's here, and it's time to switch up our makeup game. But who wants to deal with melting foundation and smudged eyeliner when the heat is on? Don't sweat it (pun totally intended)! We've got you covered with four soft, effortless makeup looks that'll keep you looking fresh and fabulous all summer long. Whether you're hitting the beach or just chilling in the AC, these trends will have you feeling like the ultimate summer goddess. So grab your favorite iced drink, and let's dive into these hot (but cool) makeup ideas!
Soft summer makeup looks:It’s blush o’clock
Just at the beginning of the summer, we were introduced to the gorgeous “Sunset Blush” trend on TikTok, and everyone has been trying it. Something about that combination of hot pink, orange and golden highlight just screams “Mentally, I’m on a white sandy beach sipping from a coconut, taking a selfie with a sea turtle named Tom”. To get that look, you can use any cream or liquid blush in hot pink and orange and top that up with a golden hue highlighter (we recommend Saie beauty Glowy Super Gel in “Sunglow” or Merit Beauty’s Day Glow in the shade “Citrine”).
To try it on before making the purchase, you can get the desired effect by combining the two colors with Facetune’s “Paint” tool and then using the sparkles to simulate the highlighter’s glow. Make sure you place the blush higher on the cheekbones for that summery sculpted look.
Another blush trend that has been major on TikTok and IG is “The Boyfriend Blush” which I refer to as “Rosacea extravaganza”. Yes, rosacea girls, this is your time to shine! Placing a pink tone blush on the frontal and lower part of your cheeks gives that natural blushed look that’s so cute and naive. For best results, combine both cream and powder blush. A good example of that blushed look is Devon Aoki, the gorgeous model with the most gorgeous dollface. To try that look you can test out any of the blush options on the Makeup feature, then adjust the placement manually with the Paint tool.
One of my favorite blush trends is definitely the "Pink Flush," which kinda feels like the blush version of Hailey Bieber's "Glazed doughnut" nails. It features a light pink color blush topped with a cool-tone highlighter. For those who love a soft summer makeup palette, this blush trend looks especially good on fair to medium tone skin but would look just as good on the darker tan girlies. Just make sure you go darker on the pink hue to flatter your skin tone.

Light summer makeup: Freckles
OK, yes, I know this is nothing new, but hear me out: freckles are the cutest in the summer. Something about even the slightest tan (or bronzer if you don't want to expose your face to direct sunlight) looks best with some freckles. Now, before you try out that "Broccoli freckles hack" (you definitely can't eat that broccoli after you try this - what a waste!) or try on any henna freckles tattoo, you can just start with Facetune's Freckles tool on the Makeup toolbar. And yes, it works on video too, which is awesome. A pro tip would definitely be to go lower on the opacity scale to get that natural, barely-there freckles look, not that dark painted-on look. To complete your light makeup palette for summer, consider pairing your freckles with a light summer lipstick in a soft, neutral shade.
Cool summer makeup:Pearlescent skin
Or as I like to call it, "It's not sweat, it's my summer glow". Well, OK, not exactly - sadly, for me, I have oily combination skin, and I do not glow that way, but one could hope, right? Anyway, the pearlescent skin is much like the Korean glass skin that features this healthy, glowy look. In summer, it hits perfectly since the sun hits you and enhances your natural features beautifully (cheekbones, temples, and upper lip), giving you a gorgeous sculpted look.
To first try on this look before bathing your face in highlighter, you can always test it using either the Blush on the digital Makeup toolbar (blush #5 from the left is actually a highlighter) or use the Paint tool to choose your specific glow and place it manually (I suggest you play with the transparency using the bar; the lower numbers you use, the more it blends in). Don't forget to complement this look with cool summer lipstick colors to balance the glowy skin.
Summer makeup trends for 2024: Embracing "Brat Summer”
On the effortless side of the summer makeup trend, we have "Brat Summer", and as Charli says, "I'm your favorite reference, baby" - yes, you are, and here's why. I love that "in your face, doing my thing" attitude, and the makeup trend that follows is on that same mentality. Let me explain: that smudged brown cat eye shadow is perfect even if you don't really know your way around powder eye shadow (for the life of me, I wish I could, but I always stick to pencils or creams - powders confuse me!). Top that up with black long eyeliner that reminds us of the old "Siren eye" trend shape that really elongates and gives you that effortless sultry look. And what compliments this summer eye makeup? Absolutely nothing - no blush, and I would totally skip foundation and concealer. This Brat summer look is all about embracing your flaws and doing your thing confidently. If you really want, you can use a natural or sheer brown gloss. For those looking for a lipstick for soft summer, try a muted mauve or soft coral to complement this edgy look.
To try this on Facetune, first absolutely skip the Retouch tool. Yes, baby, keep that skin as it is - give it a try! Next, go to the Makeup Toolbar and choose Eyeshadow number 1 and adjust its opacity to blend it into your face. Then proceed to the Eyeliner Tool and choose the black eyeliner that fits your eye shape the best (mine is number 8). Lower its opacity using the bar so it blends in better. The final touch would definitely be the Eyelashes Tool. They are one of my favorite tools, and the options are so good and natural-looking, they complete any makeup look with a realistic finish.
Which one of these trends is your favorite? And if you try it on, don't forget to tag Facetune so we can have a look! Remember, Facetune is an excellent makeup photo editor that allows you to experiment with these summer looks before committing to them in real life.
